The Greater Calendar represents a deliberate reclamation of ancient chronological principles, drawing inspiration from the primordial order of creation as depicted in sacred texts and the calendrical system attributed to Enoch. Rooted in scriptural teachings that emphasize a 364-day solar year, this framework establishes a harmonious alignment among weeks, months, seasons, and sacred observances, ensuring that feast days, Sabbaths, and annual cycles remain perpetually synchronized without deviation.

Scriptural Foundations

Scriptural sources consistently advocate for a 364-day year, which facilitates a precise division into 52 weeks of seven days each. This structure is articulated five times in the First Book of Enoch (e.g., 1 Enoch 72:37, 74:10, 74:12, 81:7, 81:11), twice in the Book of Jubilees (Jubilees 6:32, 6:38), and twice in the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Book of Jubilees explicitly contrasts this solar-based system with lunar alternatives, warning that adherence to a 365-day lunar calendar leads to errors in the timing of feasts, Sabbaths, months, and years (Jubilees 6:32–38). Similarly, the Astronomical Book within 1 Enoch (chapters 72–82) delineates a year of exactly 364 days, divided into four quarters of 91 days each, with the sun and stars maintaining unerring precision to uphold this order (1 Enoch 74:12). This calendrical model, also evidenced in Qumran texts such as Scroll 4Q324d, prioritizes divisibility by seven, ensuring that sacred occasions consistently align with fixed weekdays and avoiding conflicts with Sabbaths—a feature absent in lunar systems.

Yet the calendar does not rest on later witnesses alone. The LORD Himself remained involved with the timekeeping of His people. While they were still in Egypt, He spoke unto Moses and Aaron, saying, “This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you” (Exodus 12:1–2). God did not leave the starting point of the year to human invention; He appointed the first month in the season of deliverance, at the turning of spring, so that His feasts and Sabbaths would begin from His mouth and not from the world’s reckoning.

Structural Overview

The Greater Calendar comprises 364 days, organized into 13 months of 28 days each, yielding a perfect cycle of 52 weeks. In keeping with the word of the LORD in Exodus 12:1–2, the year commences on the Sunday (sunset Saturday) of the week of the Spring Equinox—the first month appointed unto His people—coinciding with the Astronomical New Year. This anchors the system both to the Creator’s spoken instruction and to celestial events, while remaining unaffected by equinoctial precession. Each month renews at 28-day intervals, promoting rhythmic consistency.

The diurnal cycle adheres to biblical precedent, with the 24-hour day initiating at sunset and concluding at the subsequent sunset, as affirmed in Genesis: “And the evening and the morning were the first day” (Genesis 1:5). This structure ensures that every festival, commemoration, and appointed time falls on the same day of the week annually, fostering enduring stability in observance.
